Artist Statement and Background

My drawings are about places and views of everyday landscape scenes that attract me by their beauty & energy.

As a daily ritual, I take walks with my dog Luna, taking in my surroundings, sometimes a camera in hand.  I observe the landscape and all its qualities and unwieldiness.

Back in the studio I refer to photos, but mostly my memory and experience to intuitively capture the emotional effect the landscape has on me. The results can be emotional recreations of a given external locale or more abstract poetic expressions of images; fields of color, tangled line, hidden light, hazy atmospheres. My goal is to charge the image with as much feeling as possible.

The expressive interpretation of nature as felt, not just seen, is what drives my artistic vision.
